📊 Substance Use & Addiction (2024 NSDUH)

  • 16.8% of Americans age 12+ — about 48.4 million people — met criteria for a Substance Use Disorder (SUD).

  • This is nearly unchanged from 2023 (17.1%).

    • 31.5% of adults with any mental illness also had a SUD.

Adolescents (12–17)
